Labels play an important role in 21st-century society. Food labels tell you what you are purchasing, medical labels help identify symptoms, guide treatments, and brand medications. Labels for people, however, routinely fall short of accurately describing the whole person. Instead, they exaggerate one fact at the expense of others. All too frequently, labels serve as the first step in human beings feeling justified in treating their fellow man harshly.
