PLENARY EVENT: FOR THE LOVE OF LIFE: Finding Our Way to An Ecological Civilization

The world premiere of a new film in which David Korten discusses the arc of his life’s work in uncovering the true impacts of economic policies. Korten and his collaborators explore a new vision of an Ecological Civilization based on life-affirming cooperation instead of profit-seeking competition. The film will be followed by a conversation with David Korten and Audrey Kitagawa.

Audrey Kitagawa is the President and Founder of the International Academy for Multicultural Cooperation, President of the Light of Awareness International Spiritual Family, Chair of the Anti-Racism Initiative and Cochair of the Gender Equality Working Group of the G20 Interfaith Forum, and the former advisor to the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict at the United Nations. She is a UN Representative for the United Religions Initiative, an Ambassador of Religions for Peace International, and a Trustee for the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy and Global Security Institute. She has contributed to many publications, including “Crossing World Views, The Power of Perspective in the Hawaii Japanese American Experience” in Learning in the Light, “Globalization as the Fuel for Religious and Ethnic Conflict” in Globalization and Identity, Cultural Diversity, Religion and Citizenship and “The US in Foreign Affairs: Source of Global Security, or Source of Global Fear?” in America and the World: The Double Bind.
She has been listed in Who’s Who Of American Law, Who’s Who Of American Women, Who’s Who In America, Who’s Who In The World, and Prominent People of Hawaii.

David Korten is an author, lecturer, engaged citizen, student of psychology and behavioral systems, a prominent critic of corporate globalization, and an advocate of Ecological Civilization. He earned MBA and PhD degrees from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, served on the facilities of the Harvard Business School and Harvard School of Public Health, and worked for thirty years in international
development in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He is founder/president of the Living Economies Forum, an active member of the Club of Rome, a member of the International Advisory Council of the International Academy for Multicultural Cooperation, and an Ambassador of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance. Co-founder and board chair emeritus of YES! Magazine, he is the author of numerous influential books, including the international bestselling books, When Corporations Rule the World and The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community. His other books include: Change the Story; Change the Future: A Living Economy for a Living Earth; Agenda for a New Economy: From Phantom Wealth to Real Wealth; and The Post-Corporate World: Life after Capitalism. His paper, “Ecological Civilization: From Emergency to Emergence,” was recently published by the Club of Rome.
