Sacred Education – Panel Discussion

Monday, 20 June 2022 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT

How do we, as the village that raises the leaders of tomorrow, teach today’s children to navigate a world that we’ve never lived in and have no idea how to navigate ourselves? This discussion is about techniques we can teach children and all the stakeholders in their lives to apply – techniques that can be used immediately; tools that make a difference.

~ Responding to stress and fear consciousness
~ Living in a world where authorities don’t have the answers
~ Raising children who can rise up to take leadership in the moment
~ Sacred food for children

Annie Spade

Annie Spade has been involved in Montessori education with 2-6 year olds for 40 years. She chose the Montessori model because it fosters the child’s sense of purpose and agency by honoring what Maria Montessori called “the inner teacher”. In 1983, Annie completed her first course in “The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd” – which allowed her to be informed and inspired since the beginning of her career by the universal spiritual capacities of young children. She continues to conduct weekly CGS sessions today.

In 1993, Annie co-founded a non-profit school just west of Austin, Texas. The school’s eight wild acres provide a rich setting for kindling her young students’ sense of wonder and belonging in the natural world. At the beginning of each day, Annie also practices silent meditation with the children, supported by basic indigenous practices (like drumming, rattling and chanting). And recently, she’s introduced them to the wider context and dynamics of the Universe, to which they have responded with enthusiasm and delight.
