Attendees of this presentation will learn about the Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF)’s work equipping educators around the world with systems thinking frameworks and pedagogical tools to empower young people as agents of change in their communities. CELF’s Executive Director will share her journey to environmental education and advocacy, and the influences that have shaped her leadership approach and vision for what sustainability means and how we can all play a role in building a more sustainable, equitable, and inclusive future.
Presenter Bio: Tara Stafford Ocansey is the Executive Director of the Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF), implementing CELF’s mission to make sustainability an integral part of every child’s K-12 learning experience. Tara leads CELF’s range of professional learning programs focused on supporting educators in facilitating whole school change in their school communities, and empowering students as agents of change. Tara joined CELF in January 2022 after a decade with the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, where she facilitated teams across the globe to design and implement education programs spanning the lifelong learning spectrum. Collaborating with stakeholders from government, non-profit, corporate, academic, and grassroots sectors, Tara has spearheaded sustainability education programs that have reached over 100,000 teachers and students globally. Tara holds a Master of Arts degree in Comparative and International Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is the proud mom of two curious and kind young boys, and is an active member of her community in Jersey City, New Jersey. https://celfeducation.org/
